It happened twice this week. Two different people at two different times questioned my life and my trials when they said,
"what problems could you have, your life is perfect."
Excuse me? NO ONE'S LIFE IS PERFECT.
I'll be the first to admit, I have a pretty great life. I am blessed beyond measure but I do have problems and it erks me when others assume I don't. Do others just sit back and look at my life and see butterflies and sunshine? Maybe it's because I don't vomit my problems all over other's peoples plates when I talk to them. That was kinda gross. I'm a pretty happy person. Remember, I live in a bubble but occasionally it does actually burst and I have a sticky mess to clean up. Do me a favor, when a normally happy person says they have problems, how about just listen and not judge. Stepping off soapbox now...
I promise, happy blog posts to come...

Why would anyone ever say that so another person? Have we not all learned yet that no matter what it looks like to others we all have some problems.
Looking forward to a happy post next time!
I give you permission to punch the next person that says something stupid to you.
I like you happy or sad. You are real.
you just have the gift of discretion that's all. btw - is that Hannah with glasses?
I get it too Liz...and I get the expectation that if I ever get mad it is unacceptable and people are wierded out by it. In a way it is a back handed compliment...one that reminds us to count our blessings but on the other hand it can expose our true friends....the ones that we REALLY WANT to confide in.
Okay that is just annoying. I have a lot to say about this. I had so many people say that to me before we adopted. Like I should be so happy with the two kids that I had and that my life was perfect. I think some people are so self absorbed that they have lost the art of being sensitive.
The way I see it is that everyone is living in storm. Some storms are raging, some people are experiencing the calm before the storm or just putting their life back together after a doosy. We are all eduring something. Just because I choose to put a smile on my face and choose to find joy instead wallow in the bad doesn't mean my life is perfect.
I think the reason why it stings when someone says this is because instead of validating the work that it takes to choose happiness, it lessens it. Happy doesn't just slap me in the face when I wake up in the morning, I have to go and find happy. Today reading your blog was part of my happy.
Okay now I will get off the soap box.
Luhv you.
i get that a lot. then i tell them i see a therapist because i'm secretly a hot mess, and they are so stunned, that they actually shut up. it's great. try it sometime, even if you don't see a therapist. lying is fun.
Why would anyone say that? Of course you have problems...everyone does.
I actually liked the, vomiting your problems on other people's plates. It really is true. Just because you don't wear your troubles on your sleeve doesn't mean you don't have them.
That is an amazing picture. Did you take it?
ooooh, LOVE the new format
I loved jessica's comment! She is right. Just because you make life look easy, doesn't mean it IS easy.
Lets see you live thousands of miles from your side of the immediate family. You take a great deal of pride in caring for your family and home, which i assume streeses you abit. You probably worry about every preceived new body flaw as you approach every next new event in life. how am i doing? your husband seems a pretty good one and likely runs himself ragged trying to keep up his end in a tough economy and even though you rock and roll three energetic kids through their day you wonder if you've got enough left for him.
It's less the fact you have problems my sweet darlin' sister it's the masterful way in which you and your sisters seem to remain intact. I bow to you all.
Wise words. Wise woman. You are worthy of being bowed to (wise bro!) for many reasons -- not because you are perfect with a perfect life, but for many, many other reasons.
Everyone goes through their times or trials. I'm with you--I feel pretty blessed but I also have a glass-half-full attitude. That makes all the difference, even during the tough times.
Liz, I love you and your outlook on life. I can really learn a lot. BTW great pixs!
